Comic book artist Randy Emberlin, best known for his work on Amazing Spider-man, is pleased to offer three programs to schools through Young Audiences of Oregon:
- The Dynamic Art of Comic Books
- Family Arts Night Workshop
- A Day with Randy Emberlin
Randy has over 20 years experience working for Marvel, Dark Horse and D.C. comics, contributing to well-known titles such as Spider-man, Batman and Star Wars.
Young Audiences is the nation's leading arts and education organization whose mission is to enhance children's learning with creative resources from the arts community.
The Dynamic Art of Comic Books
During this multimedia presentation, Randy engages young audiences in the fascinating process of plotting, scripting, drawing, inking and lettering comic books.
He displays original comic-book page art and sketches and presents a variety of printed forms of the comic book medium. Randy also demonstrates gesture drawing and cinematic storytelling techniques.
Following each presentation, the students are encouraged to create their own comic books with materials that Randy provides teachers.
Family Arts Night Workshop
In Randy's 90 minute appearance, he displays his work from the comic book industry and offers one of two workshops where students learn how to design and draw comic-book characters, or are introduced to the wonders of animation using the Zoetrope.
A Day with Randy Emberlin
Educators may wish to follow Randy's Dynamic Art of Comic Books presentation with two 90-minute interactive classroom workshops...
You may choose from:
How to Create a Comic Book Character:
Students learn to draw several different cartoon characters and then are encouraged to create their own.
Animation with Zoetropes:
Here students are introduced to the wonders of animation using the Zoetrope, a mid-19th century predecessor to motion pictures.
